Configure the school year and periods
Settings -> School year lets you configure the split of the current school year and automatically generate its periods.
Configuring the year split
- Settings -> School year.
- Choose the split: 2 semesters or 3 terms.
- Use automatic generation to create the matching periods — dates are spread evenly between the start and end of the school year.
This action is irreversible: to change the generated dates afterwards, you must manually delete the existing periods.
The periods created this way can also be reviewed and refined from Grades -> Periods. The available period types are Term, Semester, and Year. They are used for grades, report cards, and their weighting.
Bank holidays and school holidays
Bank holidays and school holidays are not configured in Settings -> School year: they are managed in Timetable -> Calendar.
A day marked as a bank holiday or school holiday cancels the affected timetable slots. It has no effect on canteen billing.
Creating a new school year
Creating a new school year is done from the Getting started guide (available in the School group of Settings):
- Open the Getting started guide.
- Click New year, then fill in its label and dates.
- Once ready, click Activate to make it the active school year.
Active school year
A school year is either active or inactive — there is no closing or archiving mechanism. Only one year can be active at a time; activating a new year automatically deactivates the previous one.
