Record a lesson
Open a lesson
There is no manual lesson creation: every slot in your timetable automatically becomes an entry in the class journal.
- Menu My class journal (
/journal/teacher): you see this week’s lessons, generated from your timetable. - Past slots that have not been filled in show the Not filled in badge.
- Click Fill in this lesson on the relevant slot to open the Lesson entry page (
/journal/edit/{slot}).
The date, subject and class are displayed but cannot be edited: they are inherited from the timetable slot.
Fill in the lesson content
- Write the Lesson content in the text box (simple formatting: bold, italic, bullet list).
- A minimum of 20 characters is required to publish.
- The content is auto-saved automatically roughly every 30 seconds while you type.
- At any time you can click Save to save without publishing, or Publish to make the lesson visible to pupils and parents.
A confirmation is required before publishing: once published, the lesson becomes visible to pupils and authorised parents.
Add homework
In the Homework section of the entry page, click Add homework to open the entry window. Subject and class are not requested: they are inherited from the lesson.
- Homework description: plain text, required, 500 characters maximum.
- Homework type: Exercise, Lesson to learn, Assignment to hand in, Reading, Revision, Oral, or Project.
- Due date: required, must be later than the lesson date.
- Estimated duration (minutes): optional.
There is no file attachment and no Markdown formatting for homework.
Editing a published lesson
A published lesson stays editable by its author for 30 days after publication, then locks permanently (the button becomes inactive with the “Progressive lock” label).
Only the teacher who authored the lesson can edit it — school leadership has no write access, even if the teacher is unavailable. No lesson can ever be deleted, whether published or not.
Tracking submissions for an “assignment to hand in”
For a homework item of type Assignment to hand in, open the Submissions page (/journal/{id}/submissions) from the lesson record to tick off pupils who have handed in their work.
