Schoolysoft glossary

A

Academic year: the reference period (e.g. 2026-2027). All enrolments, grades and invoices are tied to an academic year.

Audit log: a timestamped, immutable journal of all important actions (logins, changes, exports). Internal tool reserved for Schoolysoft support (Super Admin) — not available to school administrators.

C

Class: a group of students within a level (e.g. 3e A, CM2 B).

Class council: a periodic meeting of teachers to assess progress and decide on promotions or repeats.

E

Active student: a student currently enrolled in the school for the current academic year.

F

Feature flag: an option the school can enable or disable to activate a specific module (canteen, transport, etc.).

G

Shared custody: custody rights shared between two parents. Configurable in the parent-child link rights.

M

MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication): two-factor authentication. Mandatory for every Schoolysoft account. Methods: TOTP or FIDO2/passkey.

L

Level: a grade or year of study (e.g. CP, 6e, Terminale). A level can contain several classes.

C (care)

Care plan (PAI): an official medical document defining the care protocol for a student with a chronic condition.

Period: a subdivision of the academic year (term or semester) used for grades and report cards.

G (GDPR)

GDPR: General Data Protection Regulation (EU). Governs the processing of personal data.

Role: a set of permissions granted to a user account. Schoolysoft has 10 roles: School Admin, Head Teacher, Teacher, Staff, Accountant, Parent, Student, Archivist, Nurse, CPE (student welfare officer).

S

Slug: the unique URL identifier of your school — lowercase letters, digits and hyphens only, no accents or spaces (e.g. lycee-saint-pierre).

Super Admin: a Schoolysoft account with access to all schools. Reserved for Schoolysoft support.

T

Tenant: a school within Schoolysoft. Each tenant has its own data, configuration and users.

TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password): a 6-digit verification code generated by an app (Google Authenticator, Authy). It refreshes every 30 seconds.
