Legal guardians: custody arrangement and access rights
Custody arrangement
Each link between a guardian and a student carries a custody arrangement, one of four values:

The five configurable rights
Independently of the custody arrangement, each guardian ↔ student link carries five rights that can be enabled individually:
- Authorised to pick up the student — the guardian may collect the student.
- Can sign authorisations (outings, photos…) — the guardian may sign school-related authorisations.
- Access to grades and report cards — view assessments and report cards.
- Access to absences — view absence tracking.
- Billing contact (invoice payer) — the guardian is designated as the recipient of the student’s billing.
These rights are not global “access levels”: they are independent of one another and can be combined freely depending on the family situation. There is no dedicated right for the lesson log or for messaging — those features do not depend on the guardian ↔ student link.
Custody restriction
When a custody restriction exists for a guardian, it appears read-only on their record, in the Custody restriction field. This field is informational only: the current interface has no dedicated form to enter a restriction, and no feature to upload a court document.
Editing a link
From the Parents and guardians — [student name] page, the Edit link action opens a modal that lets you adjust:
- the relationship type;
- the custody arrangement;
- the rights and authorisations (the five checkboxes described above).
A notice reminds you that any change will be logged in the audit log.
There is no button to remove a link or disable a guardian’s access: the only action available on an existing link is Edit link.
Number of guardians
Once a student’s record exists, there is no overall limit on the number of guardians that can be linked to them. Only the student creation form caps the initial addition at 3 guardians; that cap no longer applies afterwards from the student record.
